West University

The West University neighborhood of Austin, Texas is bordered by the University of Texas campus to the east, Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. to the south, 38th Street to the north and Lamar Blvd. to the east. Guadalupe Street is the largest thoroughfare of the area and runs the length of the neighborhood, next to the U.T. campus. Guadalupe Street is referred to as the "Drag" and has a number of shops and restaurants, as well as two large churches on its southern end.
The majority of the West University neighborhood is made up of apartment and fraternity/sorority housing, interspersed with coffee houses and small ethnic restaurants. Caswell Tennis Center is a large public tennis facility on the west side of the neighborhood, and it abuts a large green space that contains a Frisbee disc golf course, running trails, small swimming pool, volleyball courts and picnic facilities.
The entire neighborhood is filled with large oak trees, historic homes and quaint cafes. It is definitely one of the preferred areas to live in for students of the University of Texas, as the campus is a short walk away. The availability of shops, bars and clubs, such as Cuatros and Abels, also make it a lively entertainment area.
