The sweep wasn't enough to get the Longhorns past Oklahoma State for the No. 2 seed and first-round bye, so they'll begin play as the No. 3 seed at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday against 10th-seeded Texas Tech. Texas baseball The Longhorns break out the brooms against the Jayhawks for the third time in the last four years. Four players have two RBI and right-hander Lebarron Johnson Jr. turned in his longest start in nearly a month as the No. 25 Texas Longhorns swept the Kansas Jayhawks with a 9-7 win on Saturday at UFCU Disch-Falk Field to close out the program’s final regular season in the Big 12. A four-run fifth inning helped the Longhorns take an 8-1 lead after the sixth as right fielder Max Belyeu doubled, designated hitter Kimble Schuessler singled, and first baseman Casey Borba hit a two-run home run to put up the crooked number in the fifth. Belyeu, Schuessler, and Borba all finished with two RBI, as did third baseman Peyton Powell. Schuessler also added a home run for Texas. The Longhorns appeared set to cruise to an easy victory with Johnson’s help — the big right-hander was both effective and unusually efficient over 6.0 innings, his longest start since going 6.1 innings in a win over the Horned Frogs on April 21. Johnson allowed one run on five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk. As soon as Johnson departed, however, the Texas bullpen got into trouble. After right-hander Heston Tole allowed a one-out single in the seventh, catcher Rylan Galvan allowed a passed ball and Powell made a throwing error at third. A two-run double chased Tole from the game in favor of left-hander David Shaw, who walked the first batter he faced on four pitches, hit the next batter, then gave up a sacrifice fly and another run on a wild pitch. Another walk by Shaw caused head coach David Pierce to insert right-handed closer Gage Boehm into the game looking for a seven-out save. Boehm delivered it despite allowing two runs in the eighth that made it 8-7 Texas, but the Horns scored an insurance run in the bottom half on a double, sacrifice bunt, and sacrifice fly and Boehm worked around a walk in the ninth to secure his eighth save without much drama.
