Community: East Austin

Description

Barbara Jordan Elementary is excited to announce an art exhibition showcasing four new murals being professionally painted on campus in partnership with SprATX Ignite Program & SprATX.

Event Details

The new murals aim to break down barriers between students and the world of art by providing a creative space for the school’s community to enjoy while encouraging students to explore their artistic talents.

Students will have the opportunity to watch and learn from local artists Laced & Found, Melanie Farris Art, and Sadé Lawson as well as internationally renowned muralist Amandalynn.

The teachers and artists hope that this day will provide a ray of light and increase student access to potential careers in art for students during remote learning.

This Spring, elementary school art teacher, Jessica Foster, applied for and won Austin Ed Fund’s Student Opportunity Fund grant. Ms. Foster received this grant to create this public art space for her students and their community.

We are happy to see the community come together as we celebrate these new works of art. Due to Covid 19, please make sure to wear your masks and stay 6 feet apart.
