Intro to Reef Surfing for Juniors (Age 13-17)

Experienced surfers ages 13-17, who are either experienced ocean surfers, have surfed NLand's Reef Wave before, or are proficient at NLand’s Inside wave and want to take it to the next level, are eligible for our Intro to Reef Surfing series. With only 5 spots available, surfers will accelerate quickly in a 5:1 ratio with an NLand coach on the Reef Wave. Training takes place over four consecutive weeks, starting on August 17th. The final session will take place on Monday, September 3rd (Labor Day). Lessons begin at 5:30pm and end at 7:00pm. The first three lessons on the Inside Wave will focus on advanced paddling, perfecting the jump pop up, and learning about the pocket of the wave during the dry land portion of the lesson. Surfers will take off on an unbroken wave, negotiating a steeper drop as they catch the Inside Wave, practicing turning, pumping, and floaters. Surfers will paddle quickly to catch the next wave before paddling back to the take-off point. The third lesson includes video analysis of each surfer. The first three lessons are designed to prepare surfers for the Reef Wave. In the fourth lesson, surfers will learn how to catch the Reef Wave and surf the pocket. The dry land portion of the lesson includes a review of the pocket, jump pop ups, the Reef Wave lineup, and an introduction to ocean safety and etiquette. In the water, the surfer will accelerate proficiency on the Reef Wave. With tailored feedback and consistent waves, the surfer will practice bottom turns, cutbacks, and floaters. Training will take place over four consecutive weeks, starting August 17th.
