Event Details
BAROQUE was born in the 1600s and spanned across the 17th century. Its earliest beginnings in Italy expanding out into France, Spain, Portugal, Holland and colonies established in North America. Derived from a Portuguese word meaning “pearl of irregular shape”, a feverish obsession and attention to and desire for ornate, intricate and grandiose style flourished throughout the art world, as science expanded the collective conscious of the western world to better understand the natural universe. Baroque embraced and expressed formality and ceremony.
Within the Baroque era, a smaller movement had sprung forth during the reign of Louis XV; ROCOCO. Although short lived and presence fleeting, Rococo expressed frivolity, elegance and fantasy. Gold, white, and pastel colors blossomed against the somber backdrop of Baroque. The use of mirrors and artificial light enhanced the ethereal and dreamlike landscapes of extravagant creations made a reality.
New York City’s STUDIO 54 was said to be the Baroque Rococo of the modern era. Decadent, indulgent, capricious and brimming with drama. A stardust landing of light. An arena of play, pleasure, scandal and fantasy. A living, moving theatre to be a dream come true of celebrated stardom and glamour.

From the grandiose and over-the-top phantasmagoria of the Baroque and Rococo to the immersive, hyper-saturated and vibrating glamour of disco, housed in the ever influential and conscious altering philosophy “be what you want to be” of Ball Culture, that has reigned since 1980s Harlem, as seen in legendary documentary “Paris is Burning”, we bring to you our biggest creation to date; KAVÏAT 24! This Valentine’s season, in benefit of Austin Pets Alive!, Austin Influential Group invites you to bear witness and forever scream your piece to not just dream it, but BE IT at our 6th annual Opulence Ball!
