Description
Flor De Muertos - A Cocktail Competition
Event Details
Violet Crown Spirits, a craft distillery based in Austin, Texas, invites you to their upcoming Day of the Dead-themed contest to benefit Lone Star Victims Advocacy Project, a non-profit that provides free legal services for immigrant victims of abuse in rural Texas communities.
Professional and home bartenders are encouraged to enter a recipe using Violet Crown’s Midnight Marigold Bitter Cordial as an ingredient, according to the rules. The event will celebrate Día de los Muertos and the iconic marigold flower that accompanies altars and offerings during this Mexican celebration. The competition will also be an offering itself, as proceeds from the event will be donated to the Lone Star Victims Advocacy Project.
This competition, the brainchild of Jessica Leigh Graves and Claudia Alarcon, is about celebrating life and how close we are to death at any moment, about our connection to friends and family who have passed. We encourage you to focus on themes of Mexican, Aztec or Maya cultures, Dia de los Muertos, your friends or family who have passed, the celebration of life, the acknowledgement of the nearness of death, or anything else in the neighborhood of those themes. Attendees are encouraged to bring a memento of a loved one - including pets - to add to the altar which will be on display throughout the event and into Dia de los Muertos.
