Description
The Freedom From Fears Group is a group of men and women who main purpose is to find and support Fun in Recovery. This is done through planning events and activities with out the use of mind altering chemicals.. The disease of chemical dependency is cunning, baffling and powerful. It causes the chemically dependent person and family members to live a dysfunctional, lonely life of despair. Many chemically dependent persons have broken this cycle by having developed a healthy personal recovery program, which they wish to share with others suffering from this disease.
It is the philosophy of 12-step programs that in order to stay clean and sober, the recovering person must share (give away, or give back) what he or she has gained in the program. This is why several graduates of Austin Recovery felt they could progress in their own recovery by being of service to other graduates and current clients of Austin Recovery.
In the preamble to this document it was stated that the primary purpose of the Austin Recovery Alumni Association was to help other Austin Recovery graduates to stay clean and sober. It was intended, therefore, that the alumni program could provide a bridge between graduations and clean and sober living.
This would be done by qualified Austin Recovery Alumni members sharing their "experience, strength, and hope” with clients while they were still either in the in-patient programs or just beginning their continuing care program, and encouraging them to contin
