Texas Orphan Care Leaders is an annual gathering of the leading voices in foster care, adoption, and family restoration ministry in churches and church engagment organizations across Texas. We gather to create, refine, and promote the best ideas in child well-being in order to make Texas the national leader in caring for vulnerable children and families.
Please note, if you are not representing a church or organization working to build up churches to further engage in this area of ministry with an evangelistic focus, this gathering is likely not for you. Email tocl@embracetexas.org to further clarify before you register or ask questions.
The 86th Texas Legislature will be in session so we want to help your voice and experiences be heard. We will gather Friday at the State Capitol building in Austin at 10AM to hear from a few policymakers and leaders to provide direction and an update on what's coming before our elected officials that will impact our kids. Following our Legislative & DFPS updates, leaders are encouraged to visit their Representatives' and Senators' offices (please email tocl@embracetexas.org if you need assistance making appointments with your elected officials).
Friday night we will gather at the home of Matt & Julie Kouri for dinner at 6PM. The Kouri's have graciously hosted us for the past two years, and this has become an invaluable time to develop friendships with others while also hearing a State of the Union address regarding issues and statistics on vulnerable children and families in Texas.
Saturday, we will gather at 9AM at Grace Covenant Church (9431 Jollyville Rd. Austin, TX 78759) for the remainder of our time together to answer the following questions:
How do we get more homes for kids?
How do we engage churches?
How do we work with others?
How do we sustain our efforts?
Each question will be facilitated by a different leader exploring existing resources, programs, and ideas. This workshop aspect of our time together will be low on lecture and high on discussion and interaction so come prepared to engage in critical thinking. Dinner on Friday, and lunch on Saturday are included.
