Description
The Austin Traditional Jazz Society welcomes the Silver Creek Jazz Band. Silver Creek has been together since 2007. The band is led by valve trombonist Dave Stoddard, an East Coast transplant who has been in Austin since 2001.
He will be joined by cornetist Larmon Maddox, a distinguished lead player and soloist with many local jazz ensembles. Ben Saffer, another East Coaster, will play clarinet. Dan Augustine will play tuba. Dan got his start as a symphony orchestra player in Nevada but has done good things for Austin traditional jazz bands. Jimmy Vence is a Django Reinhardt devotee and a fine soloist on guitar. The rhythm section is rounded out by Rob Schmidt, a big band drummer who also does a great job with small jazz ensembles.
The concert will take place on Sunday, October 16, from 2 to 4:45 pm at the VFW Post 8787 at 500 VFW Road (off the northbound I-35 frontage road between Braker and Yager Lanes). The bar will be open! Dancers welcome—big dance floor! Plenty of free parking. Admission at the door: $10; College Students with ID, and members of Austin Jazz Society: $5.00. ATJ concerts are family-friendly.
