About West University

Boundaries: Lamar Blvd. to Guadalupe St. and 38th St. to Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
The West University neighborhood of Austin, Texas is mostly a residential area made up of apartment, fraternity and sorority housing with a large population being in their early 20's. West Univerisity is interspersed with coffee houses and popular restaurants. Caswell Tennis Center is a large public tennis facility on the southwest side of the neighborhood and abuts a large green space that contains a Frisbee Disc Golf course, running trails, small swimming pool, volleyball courts and picnic facilities.

West University borders west of the University of Texas district, making West University a prime area for college students to live in Austin. Guadalupe Street is the largest thoroughfare of the area and runs the length of the neighborhood, next to the U.T. campus. Guadalupe Street is referred to as the "Drag" and has a number of shops and restaurants, as well as two large churches on its southern end.

The entire neighborhood is filled with large oak trees, historic homes and quaint cafes. It is definitely one of the preferred areas to live in for students of the University of Texas, as the campus is a short walk away. The availability of shops, restaurants, bars and clubs make it a lively entertainment area while still feeling at home.
