If you’re like the rest of us and plan on eating way too much over the next couple months, consider getting in some extra exercise these fun holiday runs in Austin! Not only will you burn off the holiday calories, but these races are also great way to enjoy time with your friends and family during Christmas time in Austin.
This one-kilometer run is for families with kids of all ages and abilities. On Saturday, November 17 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., this run is the perfect way to jump start the holiday season. The best part about this run is that your goal is to run as fast as you can while also chasing the Thinkery’s Festive Gingerbread Man!
Another great thing about this holiday run in Austin is that the mostly-paved and flat track ensures accessibility for wheelchairs and walkers. Children up to 23 months old are free as well as the adult accompanying the child. “Candy Cane Runners” are children older than 23 months, and the cost is $20 to $25 to enter.
All proceeds from the 5th annual Drippin’ with Thanks 5K will be donated to local families in need. Any contribution helps, especially when $1 equals one pound of food! This holiday run will be held on November 22 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Feel free to bring your furry friend to run alongside you as long as you use a leash and clean up after them. Hot tip: there will be plenty of refreshments available such as hot chocolate and snacks!
The 28th annual Thundercloud Subs Subs Turkey Trot is an event not to be missed! All the proceeds from this holiday run are donated directly to Caritas of Austin, a charity providing a safety net and resources for anyone experiencing poverty to help them get back on their feet.
According to ThunderCloud, last year’s donation of $325,000 brought the cumulative total raised for Caritas to nearly $3.5 million dollars. If you're interested in registering, you can do so online, and the rates vary from $27 a person to $32. Kids 12 and under are $12.
The 7th annual Trail of Lights Fun Run will be held on Saturday, December 1from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Run through the magnificent colorful lights and festive sights at Austin’s Trail of Lights. This holiday run is the second-largest event in the city with nearly 40,000 people participating! Registration is still available online and costs $37 for adults and $20 for youth runners.
Join in on the “longest-running, holiday-themed 5K race…. Anywhere!” The Jingle Bell Run is on Sunday, December 16 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Registration for the 5K is $30 per person and includes a shirt and jingle bells!
This holiday run in Austin donates 100% of the registration fee and fundraising efforts to the Arthritis Foundation, a non-profit organization aiming to find a cure for America’s number-one cause of disability. So far, $7,268 has been raised out of their $50,000 goal this year. Even if you donate $30, this helps provide educational materials so that one in four Americans with arthritis can fight back.
