Please join us for the final concert of the 2023-24 season as the Austin Traditional Jazz Society welcomes the Silver Creek Jazz Band. Silver Creek has been together since 2007. The band is led by valve trombonist Dave Stoddard, an East Coast transplant who has been in Austin since 2001.
He will be joined by cornetist Larmon Maddox, a distinguished lead player and soloist with many local jazz ensembles. Ben Saffer, another East Coaster, will play clarinet. Dan Augustine will play tuba. Dan got his start as a symphony orchestra player in Nevada but has done good things for Austin traditional jazz bands. Jimmy Vence is a Django Reinhardt devotee and a fine soloist on guitar. The rhythm section is rounded out by Rob Schmidt, a big band drummer who also does a great job with small jazz ensembles.
The concert will take place on Sunday, June 9, from 2 to 4:45 pm at the Ben Hur Shrine Temple, 7811 Rockwood Ln.. There is plenty of free parking at Ben Hur. The hall contains a large dance floor. Free admission to ATJS members; General admission at the door: $12; College Students with ID, and members of Austin Jazz Society: $5.00.
