Join the North Texas River Runners for an introduction to kayaking whitewater rivers. This clinic is geared towards beginner paddlers and will emphasize safety, equipment, enjoyment and skill acquisition for entry-level whitewater kayakers. Our instructors are ACA certified in whitewater kayaking as well as certified in wilderness first aid and CPR.
All essential paddling equipment will be provided for participants that do not have their own. Whitewater kayak, paddle, life jacket, skirt and helmet.

The San Marcos River is a spring fed, crystal clear gem only 3 hours away from the DFW Metroplex. It is a perfect 72 degrees year round and is a perfect place to try out whitewater kayaking for the first time and has a mix of flat calm water and some easy class 1 and 2 rapids. The class will be based at San Marcos River Retreat which is a private, river-front camp just a couple of miles downstream of I-35.

We will teach equipment basics and safety then move to the water where we will practice whitewater paddling and safety skills in the flat calm water. From there we will move into the gentle rapids next to the camp then paddle downstream depending on time and progression of the participants.

All participants are welcome to stay and camp overnight at San Marcos River Retreat. We have a campsite reserved. There are restrooms, showers, water and some electrical outlets. Tent camping only and a few spaces for hammocks. No trailers or RV’s. There is no additional charge for camping for paid participants. San Marcos River Retreat has a no alcohol policy. If you do camp or stay until Sunday we will be doing a downriver 3 mile paddle. You will be responsible for your own gear rental and can rent the same gear you used the day before at a cost of $10/hour with a max of $60 for the whole day. If you choose to camp and paddle Sunday we will need to know ahead of time.

Cost: $90 per person for NTRR paid members, $110 per person for
non members. This includes kayak, paddle, skirt, helmet,
instruction and camping on Saturday only.
