Austin Zoo

Austin Zoo's mission is to rescue and rehabilitate animals as well as educate the public on these fascinating creatures. Learn about the animals close-up, get some exercise outdoors, and have more fun with your family at this popular destination. Entrance into the zoo is only $11.95 per person, and children are $8.95. The zoo is also open everyday from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Austin Nature & Science Center

The Austin Nature and Science Center is the perfect place for kids to learn and have fun all at the same time with hands-on educational exhibits and activities. What could possibly be better than this? The fact that the ANSC has free admission, making it the perfect place for family fun in Austin.

Barton Creek Greenbelt

For family fun in the sun, check out the Barton Creek Greenbelt! For hiking, swimming, fishing, flower observing, and bird watching, visit the Barton Creek Greenbelt. Parking is quick and easy at the Greenbelt, and admission is free, too. Pro tip: be sure to wear plenty of sunscreen, bring a hat and sunglasses, and drink lots of water.

Barton Springs Pool

For swimming all year round, visit Barton Springs Pool. The pool itself is over three acres and is fed from underground springs, which is what maintains the pool's bath-like temperature all year round. The Barton Springs Pool is also home to the endangered salamander, so keep an eye out for this little fellows, but it's the perfect for kids to learn about protecting this endangered species.

Inner Space Cavern

For a family-friendly activity that's outdoors, visit the Inner Space Cavern, an underground cavern that was discovered during the building of the I-35 freeway. You can take guided tours and learn about the cavern's structures as well as see Ice Age animal fossils. Tours are an hour and 15 minutes long and cost $20.95 per person and $14.95 for children. Rates go up on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
